The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has confirmed that the recent car accident involving its newly elected president, Abubakar Yakubu, was caused by a mechanical brake failure.
In a statement shared by outgoing AGN president Emeka Rollas on Thursday, the guild clarified details of the tragic incident that claimed the life of a child and left the child’s mother injured and receiving medical care.
“Yakubu cooperated fully with law enforcement and emergency responders as a law-abiding citizen,” Rollas said, responding to viral reports surrounding the accident.
According to reports, the accident occurred in Surulere, Lagos, on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, less than three days after Yakubu was elected president of AGN on 6 December, defeating actress Rita Daniels.
The announcement underscores that the incident was an unfortunate accident and not due to negligence, with authorities continuing to investigate while the victims receive care.
