Recently elected as the National Director of Policy and Implementation (DPI) of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Don Pedro Aganbi has described the Guild as undergoing a phase of rapid transformation, driven by the urgent need for robust policy frameworks and effective execution.
Aganbi, who is also a technology curator, spoke in an interview with The Nation, noting that his combined experience in Nollywood and technology uniquely positions him to contribute meaningfully to the Guild’s evolving structure.
“Nollywood today operates in a fast-moving ecosystem shaped by technology, data, global platforms and modern distribution systems. My experience allows me to look beyond immediate challenges and focus on building systems that prepare the Guild for tomorrow,” he said.
According to Aganbi, the Nigerian film industry has grown beyond the traditional focus on film production and must now fully embrace innovation, data management, digital platforms, global partnerships and long-term economic sustainability.
He explained that his core objective as DPI is to help build an AGN that is proactive in governance, where policies are designed to anticipate industry shifts, technology improves operational efficiency, and members feel the impact of decisions in real time.
“There must be clear national coordination of ideas across all states,” Aganbi stated. “The national body should provide policy direction, while state chapters adapt and implement these policies within agreed standards that reflect their local realities.”
He further stressed the importance of structured implementation, adding that all major initiatives, including welfare programmes, partnerships, projects and events, should align with a central implementation dashboard. This, he said, would promote accountability, eliminate duplication of efforts and ensure measurable progress across the Guild.
Aganbi’s appointment marks the introduction of a pioneering role within AGN, signalling a renewed focus on policy-driven leadership and structured growth as Nollywood continues to expand on both local and global fronts.
