Among the four candidates nominated for the Wakiso Woman MP seat is 20-year-old Jorine Najjemba, a presidential candidate who never was.
The senior six vacist is among the dozens who had earlier expressed interest in contesting for the presidency this year. She told URN on Wednesday that although she returned all the required signatures, she was never considered to compete against incumbent President Yoweri Museveni.
Left with limited options, Najjemba says she decided to return home and seek a legislative position. Initially an independent, but is now contesting as the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flagbearer.
As a young leader, Najjemba says she brings fresh ideas that resonate with the youth, the largest segment of Uganda’s population. Born in Nkoowe, Wakiso district, Najjemba was nominated by her elder sister Jennah Lunkuse, who said she was inspired by Najjemba’s determination and resilience despite the frustration she faced during her attempt to contest for the presidency.
