Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has announced a legal victory in her defamation suit against an online publisher who accused her of being romantically involved with Senator Dino Melaye.
The actress took the blogger, identified as Polace Media Limited, to court after the platform published what she described as a false and damaging report about her private life.
In her suit, Adunni argued that the publication placed her “in a misleading and offensive light,” breaching her constitutional right to privacy as guaranteed under Section 37 of the Nigerian Constitution and the Niger Delta Protection Act, 2023.
According to her, the court ruled in her favor and awarded ₦20 million in damages.
Reacting to the judgment via her Instagram page, the actress said the victory reinforces the need to protect individuals’ integrity and privacy in the digital age.
“I won my case, Adunni Ade vs. Polace Media Limited. A false story was published about me, but truth stood tall. This judgment reaffirms that privacy matters, and so does integrity,” she wrote.
Adunni expressed gratitude to her legal team, led by Olumide Babalola LP, for their relentless effort, adding that this marks her second court win with more cases pending.
“Justice delayed isn’t justice denied. Many thanks to my lawyer! You worked tirelessly on this case. Two cases won, a few more to go,” she said.
The actress also appeared to call out a fellow Nollywood colleague, accusing them of spreading falsehood and harboring envy.
“To you, my fellow actress, who told a false story to the blogger, don’t worry, the world will soon know the kind of snake you are. Envy and bitterness live within you,” she added.
The ruling underscores the growing emphasis on media accountability and the legal consequences of spreading false information about public figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
