The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in pursuing the party’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election—unless the ongoing internal crises within the party are resolved in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) timeline.
Speaking at a press briefing in Osogbo on Monday, the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, said the deepening crisis within the party’s national leadership has made it impossible to conduct the governorship primary earlier scheduled for December 2.
Bisi clarified that Governor Adeleke had fully complied with all requirements set out in the PDP timetable, saying he purchased and submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms within the official window of October 13–25, 2025, and appeared before the screening committee on October 30, where he was cleared without reservations.
However, Bisi explained that shortly after these preliminary processes, the internal turmoil rocking the national leadership of the PDP intensified.
“The suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers—officers who play statutory roles in conducting congresses, primaries, and transmitting candidates’ names to INEC—created significant uncertainty,” he said.
According to him, the crisis became so severe that the crucial ward and local government congresses slated for November 24 and 29, where delegates for the primaries were to be elected, could not hold. He added that the issues disrupting the schedule are currently before courts across the country.
Bisi continued: “In light of these developments, it has become inevitable—and indeed unavoidable—that the PDP governorship primary scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, can no longer proceed.”
He further disclosed that due to the unresolved internal crisis, Governor Adeleke may have lost interest in seeking the PDP’s nomination for the 2026 election.
However, he noted that Adeleke may reconsider only if a resolution recognized by INEC is reached within the commission’s stipulated timeline.
The ongoing turmoil within the PDP has severely polarised the party at the national level, splitting it into opposing factions.
According to the INEC timetable for the August 8, 2026 Osun governorship election, political parties have until December 15 to submit the names of their candidates.
