Governor Ademola Adeleke has vowed that those responsible for the recent killings in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, will face the full weight of the law.
Adeleke made the pledge during a visit to the community on Monday to commiserate with residents and assess the situation. He described the incident as tragic and assured that justice would be served without bias.
Residents alleged that operatives of the Amotekun Corps killed three people during an invasion of the town on September 30, and later took away the victims’ bodies.
Following the allegations, the Osun State Police Command confirmed the arrest of five persons in connection with the killings and ordered the closure of some Amotekun offices pending investigation.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said a preliminary inquiry indicated that the assault on Akinlalu was carried out by Amotekun operatives. The Commander of the Corps, Isaac Omoyele, is currently under investigation.
“I promise you, the perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law. There won’t be any sacred cow,” Governor Adeleke said, urging all Amotekun officers to cooperate fully with police investigators.
He prayed for the victims and their families and assured that those injured would receive full medical support from the state government. The governor also called for calm, pledging transparency and accountability in ensuring justice for the victims.
