Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has commended the rapid progress on the Ile-Ife flyover, describing the project as a landmark in his administration’s plan to modernise infrastructure and drive economic growth across the state.
Inspecting the site on Wednesday, Adeleke said the ₦14.9 billion project, executed by Sammya Nigeria Limited, would ease gridlock, connect key economic zones, and “open new doors of development” for residents of Ile-Ife and surrounding communities.
“We have broken away from the old tradition of abandoned projects and diverted funds. Osun money must work for Osun people,” the governor declared, expressing delight at the quality and pace of work.
Adeleke dismissed critics who questioned the need for a flyover in Ile-Ife, insisting that the ancient city, as the cradle of the Yoruba nation, deserves first-class infrastructure. “Ile-Ife must not remain underdeveloped. It should stand as a global cultural capital,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed that the project aligns with his administration’s “Creative Economy Agenda,” which seeks to boost tourism and expand local commerce through modern infrastructure.
He warned contractors handling state projects to maintain strict standards and deadlines or risk contract termination. “We will not tolerate laxity. Osun people expect results,” Adeleke said, adding that his government will begin publishing monthly progress reports for transparency.
Adeleke assured residents that his administration would soon return to commission the flyover, calling it “an iconic project that will redefine Osun East.”
