The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally unveiled its new national secretariat in the Wuse 2 district of Abuja, marking a major milestone in preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Former Senate President and ADC National Chairman, David Mark, led several prominent political figures to the inauguration ceremony on Monday.
He was accompanied by former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola; former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai; former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal; and Senator Dino Melaye, among others.
In his remarks, Mark urged party members and the broader opposition coalition to remain focused and united as they prepare for the 2027 polls.
The opposition coalition had officially adopted the ADC as its political platform on July 2, 2025, positioning it as the vehicle through which it intends to challenge for the presidency and other key offices in the upcoming elections.
According to the coalition, its mission is to “rescue Nigeria from collapse and rebuild its democracy.” “This coalition of national opposition groups is not merely about winning political power,” Mark declared. “It is a coordinated effort to rebuild the crumbling pillars of Nigeria’s democracy. Our mission is clear: Rescue Nigeria. Rebuild Nigeria. Return power to the people.”
Mark accused the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government of hijacking democratic institutions and pushing the country toward what he described as a “creeping civilian dictatorship” over the past two years.
He alleged that the government had been more focused on political maneuvering than governance.
“The blatant infiltration and destabilisation of all major opposition parties serve one purpose: to entrench total state capture and leave Nigerians with no alternative in 2027,” he said. “This coalition exists to prevent Nigeria from sliding into a one-party state.”
The movement includes several high-profile political leaders such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Youth Minister Solomon Dalung, media figure Dele Momodu, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti Kingibe, former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, and former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd.).
At the event, former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu formally handed over leadership to Mark and Aregbesola, presenting them with their party membership cards as interim national chairman and national secretary, respectively.
