Stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Borno State have reaffirmed their support for the party’s Transitional Leadership and Membership Registration Committee, endorsing Alhaji Bukar Ali Wurge as its chairman.
The endorsement was announced in a statement issued by the Transitional Leadership alongside key stakeholders of the party, following tensions that trailed the inauguration of the committee.
According to the statement, the stakeholders described the Transitional Committee as constitutionally backed and lawfully established, noting that its formation aligns with the provisions of the ADC Constitution and the party’s electoral guidelines. They maintained that the committee under the leadership of Alhaji Bukar Ali Wurge represents the legitimate party structure in Borno State.
The group said it was compelled to address the public after what it described as a violent disruption of the committee’s inauguration, which it condemned as an assault on democratic principles and internal party governance.
The statement alleged that the incident led to the destruction of vehicles belonging to party members and the vandalism of a police vehicle. It further claimed that several individuals, including police officers, sustained injuries during the disturbance.
Expressing solidarity with those injured, the stakeholders commended the Nigeria Police Force for carrying out its constitutional responsibility to safeguard a lawful political gathering.
They also dismissed claims challenging the legitimacy of the Transitional Committee, insisting that Alhaji Bukar Ali Wurge’s emergence as chairman followed due process and was firmly rooted in the party’s constitutional framework.
Warning against further attempts to undermine the party’s internal democracy, the stakeholders cautioned that violence, intimidation and the spread of misinformation pose a serious threat to credible political engagement.
The group urged party members and the general public to ignore what it described as false narratives surrounding the committee, assuring that the Transitional Leadership remains focused on rebuilding, unifying and repositioning the ADC in Borno State.
They further called on the national leadership of the party and relevant authorities to ensure justice for those injured during the incident, while promoting peace and order within the party.
The statement concluded with a pledge of loyalty to the ADC Constitution and a renewed commitment to strengthening democratic values as the party prepares for future political activities in the state.
