The Lagos State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged residents to protect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and refrain from sharing images or details with political parties or unauthorized individuals.
In a statement issued Thursday by the party’s Directorate of Communication and signed by Oluwasegun Adekayero, the ADC said it had observed messages circulating, particularly in Lagos Mainland, asking voters to send photographs of their PVCs via WhatsApp for political mobilization.
Adekayero described such requests as unsafe and a threat to both voter privacy and the integrity of the democratic process. “The PVC is a personal and confidential document issued by INEC, containing sensitive information that must be protected at all times. Sharing it indiscriminately through informal channels raises serious concerns about data misuse and voter security”, he said.
He stressed that voter mobilization should always be lawful, transparent, and respectful of citizens’ rights. Political engagement, he said, must build trust rather than create fear, coercion, or undue pressure.
The party advised residents to safeguard their PVCs, avoid transmitting copies via unsecured digital platforms, and report any suspicious requests for voter information to the appropriate authorities.
Adekayero reaffirmed ADC’s commitment to issue-based politics, lawful grassroots engagement, and credible democratic processes in Lagos State. “Democracy thrives when citizens are informed, protected, and respected”, he added, emphasizing that civic education and policy dialogue remain central to the party’s approach to political participation.
