Party criticizes government inaction as 23 reportedly killed, hundreds injured in Borno attacks….
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned the recent bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, which reportedly left 23 dead and hundreds injured.
In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, expressed condolences to the victims and their families, describing the attack as a tragic reminder of persistent security challenges in the country.
While commending first responders and security personnel for their efforts, the ADC warned that the incident highlights lingering concerns over safety in Maiduguri, a city that had experienced relative stability in recent years.
The party also criticized the current federal leadership, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is abroad at a critical time, describing this as a lapse in focus on national security. “Moments like this demand the full and undivided attention of the nation’s leadership,” the statement said.
The ADC further alleged that key officials responsible for national security appear more occupied with political activities than addressing urgent threats on the ground. It urged President Tinubu to return immediately and prioritise his constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property.
The party called on the government to take tangible measures to support victims, including considering compensation for families affected by attacks, emphasizing that condolences alone are insufficient.
According to the ADC, the federal government must demonstrate a stronger commitment to safeguarding citizens and preventing further loss of lives.
