The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has officially lifted the suspension of Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar, restoring her ability to participate in guild activities and film projects.
Abubakar had been under an indefinite suspension since October 2024 following allegations of defaming fellow actors and prominent Nigerians. A two-year investigation by a guild-appointed panel initially found her culpable, resulting in her temporary exclusion from all AGN programs.
The announcement was made by outgoing AGN National President Emeka Rollas during the inauguration of the guild’s new National Executive Council (NEC) on Thursday at the AGN national secretariat in Abuja. The event brought together actors, filmmakers, and industry stakeholders from across Nigeria.
Rollas, whose second and final term ended in December 2025, officially handed over leadership to Abubakar Yakubu.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rollas explained his decision to lift the suspension:
“There were persons that we have suspended according to the AGN law, and because I’m leaving office, I don’t want to leave them suspended.
Halima Abubakar took AGN to court claiming a frivolous amount of money, but we had our investigations, and we suspended her from all acting and all AGN activities.
However, since acting remains her main source of livelihood, it would be wicked for us to leave her like that.
Therefore today, by the powers imposed on me by the Board of Trustees and the entire Actors Guild of Nigeria, I hereby lift Halima Abubakar’s suspension.”
Rollas further revealed that suspensions imposed on other members—including Christopher Igboji, Chidi Concord, Dan Ewerem, and Jeff Okwute from the Enugu State chapter—had also been lifted.
Earlier in the program, Chuks Chyke, Chairman of the Organising Committee for the inauguration, praised Rollas for his leadership, highlighting the stability and inclusiveness he brought to the guild during his tenure.
With her suspension lifted, Halima Abubakar can now fully resume her professional activities in Nollywood and participate in AGN-led programs and initiatives.
