Nigerian actor Olumide Oworu has shared his motivations for venturing into politics, emphasizing his desire to influence policymaking that impacts younger generations.
Speaking in a recent interview on Naija FM, Oworu highlighted how poor governance directly affects everyday life and inspired him to become actively involved in shaping the country’s future.
“I decided to join politics because of how the country is going. I know how Nigeria was when I was younger, but now, things keep getting worse. And I want to start a family and raise my kids here,” he said.
Oworu also noted the advanced age of many current political leaders, pointing out that the policies they enact today will have long-term effects on his generation. “Most of the present crop of politicians are aging out, and whatever policy they are making today, my friends and I will be at the receiving end tomorrow,” he explained.
In 2023, the actor contested for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly under the Labour Party Nigeria but lost to incumbent Desmond Elliott.
Oworu’s remarks underscore a growing trend of younger public figures engaging in politics to directly influence governance and policy reform in Nigeria.
