Popular Nigerian actor and comedian Tunde Usman, widely known as Okele, has sparked conversations online after humorously proposing that Nigeria should consider “signing” foreign Presidents to solve its economic challenges.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, Okele reacted to the recent surge in the price of cooking gas and the rising cost of living nationwide. Drawing a comparison with football management, he suggested adopting a similar approach where non-performing “coaches” are replaced to restore performance and efficiency.
Speaking in Yoruba, the actor said many countries in the football world hire foreign coaches who deliver results, and Nigeria could adopt a similar strategy for governance.
“If you love football, you’ll notice that every club has a coach, assistant coach, and goalkeeper trainer,” Okele said. “Why can’t Nigeria do the same? Instead of campaigning for political parties, let’s sign a proven ex-president from another country to help fix Nigeria. And if he doesn’t perform, we sack him and hire another.”
Okele’s satirical comment reflects growing public frustration over Nigeria’s worsening economic situation, including skyrocketing prices of essential goods such as gas and fuel.
While the suggestion was clearly tongue-in-cheek, it has struck a chord with many Nigerians online who share his discontent with the country’s political and economic direction.
