Abia Warriors technical adviser Imama Amapakabo has praised his side’s tactical discipline following a decisive 1-0 away win against Plateau United on Sunday at the New Jos Stadium. A 68th-minute strike by Taheer Abubakar proved sufficient to secure the maximum points, extending the Umuahia-based club’s winning streak to three matches.
Amapakabo emphasized that his team fully deserved the result, noting that the host’s lack of initiative allowed the Warriors to control the tempo and capitalize on strategic openings.
The victory marks a significant milestone for the club as they conclude the first stanza of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. With 33 points from 19 matches, the Warriors have successfully climbed to second position on the league table, trailing leaders Rivers United.
Amapakabo expressed satisfaction with the squad’s current momentum, highlighting the importance of ending the mid-season period on a high note while criticizing the defensive posture of their opponents.
“Every victory is exciting because it’s been a while since we had a three-game winning streak. It’s an exciting feeling, as we needed to end the first round on a positive note,” Amapakabo remarked. “Plateau United were too predictable because they were waiting for my team to make mistakes instead of trying to create something themselves,” he added.
The technical crew intends to utilize the upcoming mid-season break to further refine the team’s transition play and defensive organization. Plateau United’s failure to threaten the Warriors’ backline has raised questions about their creative depth, whereas Amapakabo’s tactical foresight continues to yield positive results on the road. As the second half of the campaign approaches, Abia Warriors remain firmly positioned as title contenders, benefiting from a balanced mix of veteran leadership and clinical finishing from players like Abubakar.
