As 2027 draws nearer, Governor Alex Otti of Abia state has dismissed rumours linking him to other political parties, reaffirming that his re-election bid will be under the Labour Party. He stressed that his political decisions will prioritize the mandate given by the people over partisan maneuvering.
Speaking during his regular monthly media briefing, Governor Otti emphasized that his focus remains on delivering tangible results for Abians, rather than engaging in political speculation.
“My commitment is to the people of Abia. If an election were held tomorrow, I would still run on the Labour Party platform”, he stated.
On public transportation, the governor announced an extension of the state’s free electric bus service, which was initially scheduled to end this month. The initiative will now continue until the end of February, aiming to ease commuting challenges for residents.
Governor Otti also highlighted progress on water infrastructure, noting that the Aba water project is nearing completion and will soon be commissioned, with similar upgrades planned for Umuahia.
Healthcare improvements remain a priority under Otti’s administration. He reported ongoing renovations of primary healthcare centres, upgrades to hospital facilities, and efforts to improve access to quality medical services statewide.
Education reforms are equally central to the government’s agenda. Governor Otti outlined plans for accelerated reconstruction and modernisation of public schools, focusing on both physical infrastructure and overall learning environments. “Our children deserve modern, safe, and conducive learning spaces. This is the foundation of Abia’s future”, he said.
The governor concluded by reassuring citizens of the government’s commitment to transparent governance, infrastructure renewal, and economic revitalization. He urged residents to continue supporting state initiatives and reforms, stressing that development, rather than political maneuvering, will remain the administration’s guiding principle.
