Kwara state governor and Chairman Nigeria’s Governor’s Forum(NGF) Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the weekend lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for placing food security, agricultural transformation and the welfare of Nigerians at the forefront of national development.
AbdulRazaq made the commendation in Ilorin, the state capital during the distribution of relief materials to the farmers affected by natural disasters during the last dry year season.
The event was being collaborated with the management of the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC),, Abuja.
He said that, “Flooding remains a major challenge to agricultural production in our riverine communities.
“It destroys crops, disrupts livelihoods and threatens food security.
“Today’s distribution of relief materials is therefore more than an act of compassion; it is an investment in the resilience of our farmers and the future of agriculture in Kwara State”.
Governor AbdulRazaq who was represented at the event by the
Supervising Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs..Olutoyosi Thomas said that, “The Kwara State Government remains committed to agricultural transformation through strategic investments and strong partnerships.
“As part of this commitment, the State recently commenced the Special Maize Farm Project, targeting one thousand (1,000) farmers across the sixteen Local Government Areas with improved hybrid maize seeds, complementary agricultural inputs and technical support.
“This initiative complements the food security objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Beneficiaries of this intervention are encouraged to make the best use of the support provided today.
” Let these items become seeds of renewed productivity, for every great harvest begins with a single seed planted in hope.
“When timely support meets diligent hands, adversity gives way to opportunity.
While expressing sincere appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Management of N-HYPPADEC and all stakeholders whose collective efforts continue to bring hope to our communities.
“Let us continue to work together to build resilient farming communities, strengthen food security and secure a more prosperous future for Kwara State and Nigeria”.
Also in his remarks, the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa said that, the commission has donated a sum of N100m as intervention to the farmers affected by dry season disasters in Kwara State.
Yelwa said that, the donation was part of effort to boost food production and boosting the socio-economic growth of the affected farmers.
He said that, the interventions being given to the farmers covered the last dry season’s flooding in Kwara.

said that, “the intervention fulfilled the commission’s earlier promise to support farmers who lost their farmlands and crops to the disaster.
“We are here to distribute relief materials to communities affected during the dry season when many farmers lost their farmlands and crops”.The commission sympathised with the affected farmers at the time and promised to support them. Today’s distribution is in fulfilment of that promise”.He also commended the Kwara Government for distributing hybrid maize seeds to farmers, including those from the five HYPPADEC benefiting local government areas.
He said the initiative would encourage increased agricultural production, wealth creation and improved livelihoods for farming families.
