The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, has inaugurated a new Board of Trustees (BoT), electing Senator Mao Ohabunwa as its chairman.
The election took place on Friday at the official residence of the FCT Minister in Abuja, where Isah Dansidi was also announced as the new secretary of the board.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Abdulrahman said the formation of a new BoT marks a crucial step toward restoring the party’s core values and rebuilding public confidence.
“We are gathered here not just to inaugurate a new board of trustees, but to reaffirm our commitment to the ideals that founded this great political family — justice, fairness, inclusivity, and respect for the rule of law,” he said at the event held at Nyesom Wike’s residence.
Abdulrahman noted that recent internal disputes and structural challenges had distanced the PDP from its foundational principles. He criticized the previous BoT, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, saying it had “lost its moral balance,” adding that Wabara’s suspension by the Abia State chapter of the party was a difficult but necessary corrective measure.
He further reflected on the party’s past missteps: “The decay we are correcting today did not begin yesterday. It began when we abandoned the principle of zoning before the 2015 elections, when personal ambition overshadowed equity, and when we ignored voices of reason within our own ranks. The consequences of those decisions still haunt us.”
Abdulrahman pledged that under the new leadership, the PDP will be rebuilt on transparency, accountability, and adherence to its constitution.
“No arm of this party will again be hijacked by impunity or manipulation,” he said. “We will respect court judgments, uphold the rule of law, and conduct our congresses with fairness and integrity. We will restore public trust and reposition the PDP as the moral voice of Nigeria’s democracy.”
