The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has confirmed the release of its pastor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Rev. Sunday Agang, who was abducted earlier this week in Jos, Plateau State.
In a statement issued on Friday, the church expressed profound relief and gratitude, announcing that the senior cleric has regained his freedom and is now safe.
“We wish to announce with immense gratitude and joy the release of our dear pastor. We are delighted to confirm that he has regained his freedom and is currently safe,” the statement read.
ECWA described his release as a powerful demonstration of divine faithfulness, attributing the outcome to sustained prayers offered by members and supporters during the period of uncertainty.
“This release is a testament to God’s faithfulness and the power of collective prayer,” the church stated, while thanking worshippers across Nigeria and abroad who stood in solidarity throughout the ordeal.
“We extend our sincere appreciation to all brethren who stood with us in prayer during this trying period,” the statement added.
Despite celebrating the cleric’s return, ECWA warned that the incident reflects the deepening insecurity confronting communities across the country, particularly the growing wave of kidnappings targeting both prominent individuals and ordinary citizens.
“The rising wave of kidnapping, which has sadly become a means of livelihood for some, is a threat to our collective existence and must be addressed urgently,” the church noted.
The church also called on authorities at all levels to take decisive action in fulfilling their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.
“We therefore call on government at all levels to rise to its primary constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of every Nigerian,” ECWA said.
Rev. Agang was reportedly abducted on Tuesday near his residence in Jos after armed men intercepted his movement and took him to an undisclosed location, triggering widespread concern among ECWA members and the broader Christian community.
His abduction sparked prayer sessions and appeals for divine intervention across ECWA congregations within Nigeria and in the diaspora.
Security analysts say the incident underscores the increasing boldness of criminal groups operating in vulnerable regions and highlights the urgent need for stronger preventive security measures.
Even amid the relief surrounding his release, ECWA reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, and continued prayers for national stability.
“We continue to pray for the peace of Nigeria and the safety of all citizens,” the church added.
