FilmOne Studios has announced that its new Nigerian drama, ‘Aba Blues’, will premiere in cinemas nationwide on Friday, March 20, 2026.
The film, set in Aba, Abia State, explores love, ambition, and the city’s unmistakable energy. Known as a hub of industry and creativity, Aba shapes the choices, relationships, and pivotal moments of the characters in the story.
According to Ladun Awobokun, Chief Content Officer at FilmOne Entertainment, the film reflects the studio’s commitment to culturally grounded storytelling.
“Aba Blues represents the stories we are intentional about telling at FilmOne: honest, emotionally resonant, and rooted in who we are. It is a story of love and resilience, but also of consequence and choice,” Awobokun said.
Writer and director Jack’enneth Opukeme emphasized that the story was crafted to feel authentic and lived-in.
“This is a film about flawed people navigating complex relationships. Aba has a rhythm you cannot ignore. That rhythm shaped the tone, the pacing, and the emotional core of the story,” he noted.
The ensemble cast includes Angel Anosike, Prince Nelson, Jidekene Achufusi, Toni Tones, and Odunlade Adekola, supported by a dynamic supporting cast.
At its heart, ‘Aba Blues’ explores human resilience, the cost of ambition, and the impact of social pressures on love and relationships. Themes of betrayal, longing, and personal sacrifice are intertwined with the cultural richness of Aba, delivering a story that is both intimate and authentic.
FilmOne Studios continues to strengthen its portfolio of Nigerian films that celebrate local stories while resonating with audiences both at home and internationally.
