Former Big Brother Naija housemate Seyi Awolowo has urged contestants on the reality show to develop a clear plan for life after the competition, warning that popularity alone is not enough to guarantee long-term success.
Speaking in a recent interview, the Season 4 housemate said while the show offers contestants immediate visibility and opportunities in the entertainment industry, lasting success depends on how they leverage the platform.
According to him, many former housemates have quietly built successful careers outside the spotlight by using the exposure from BBNaija as a stepping stone.”For a bunch of people, they use it to enter other industries. Miracle is a pilot. He came, he won, he used his money, he went to pay for school overseas. Baba is a pilot.
“And there are a lot of other housemates who, in the same way, nobody has heard about them ever since that time, but they used it as a platform to enter the next thing they are using to live their lives currently.”
Seyi explained that although entertainment opportunities are often the easiest to access immediately after leaving the show, contestants should see them as a means to build financial stability rather than an end goal.
“The entertaining thing is the low-hanging fruit when you come out of the house. It’s just right there. So, I mean, why not grab the fruit? You need to make money now.
“Fame with no cash is rubbish. You understand?”
The reality TV star also advised housemates to honestly assess their strengths and weaknesses once the show ends and create a roadmap for their future instead of chasing temporary online attention.
“So it’s just a matter of you as the individual, after the house, you sit down and plan your life. These are my strong suits, these are my weaknesses, where can I plug this in? Where can I plug that out? How can you now go from here on?
“But if you don’t have a proper plan when you are out of the house, you just fall by the wayside. You listen to everybody, and you stand for nothing.”
Seyi’s comments come as a new generation of BBNaija contestants prepares to navigate life beyond the reality show, where public attention can fade quickly without a clear career strategy.
