Two suspects have been arrested by the Kebbi State Police Command in connection with the abduction of three newly graduated military recruits from the state in neighbouring Zamfara.
Police spokesperson Bashir Usman said the suspects, identified as Mallan Abubakar from Gargam Village in Zamfara and Usman Muhammadu from Ilorin, Kwara State, were arrested on Saturday morning.
According to the command, one of the suspects provided useful information during preliminary investigation regarding the July abduction along the Kwanan Mayanchi–Gurusu axis of the Anka–Bukuyum road in Zamfara.
The three recruits, including Kabiru Hassan from Ribah in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State and two others from Zuru, have regained their freedom.
The police said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and efforts to identify other persons linked to the crime.
The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, commended the officers involved and pledged that the command would continue efforts to bring all those connected to the abduction to justice.
