Celebrity fashion designer Veekee James has defended her decision to frequently appear in public with her husband, Femi Atere, following criticism from a social media user who questioned why he is often by her side.
The entrepreneur addressed the comments in a video shared on her social media platforms, responding to claims that her husband did not have “a life of his own” because of his regular appearances at her events.
Rejecting the criticism, Veekee said their relationship is built on togetherness, insisting that marriage means sharing life rather than living separate lives.
“Yes, my husband does not have a life of his own. His life is my life, the same way I don’t have a life of my own. My life is his life. He is me and I am him. Together we are like padlock and key,” she said.
The designer argued that those questioning their closeness misunderstood the essence of marriage.
She maintained that she and her husband had deliberately chosen to build their lives around one another and saw nothing unusual about attending events together.
Addressing her critics directly, Veekee suggested they were free to define their own marriages differently.
“When you marry your own, separate him. When you marry your own, remove him from your life and keep him somewhere else. You don’t know what marriage is. His life is mine, my life is his. Everything he is, is mine,” she said.
Veekee also made it clear that public criticism would not influence how she and her husband live their lives, promising that they would continue making joint appearances.
“You’ve not seen anything. You will see me and my husband anywhere possible, everywhere possible, you will see us,” she added.
She ended the video on a light-hearted note, affectionately describing Femi Atere as her “personal handbag” while sharing clips of the couple together.
The video has since sparked conversations on social media, with users divided over Veekee James’ views on marriage, companionship and public displays of togetherness.
