A leaked security document warning of possible Boko Haram and bandit attacks in parts of Adamawa and Borno states has prompted an investigation by the Nigerian Army.
The confidential DSS intelligence memo reportedly identified Michika Local Government Area in Adamawa and Askira Uba in Borno as possible targets following the collapse of a ceasefire arrangement.
The report also raised concerns over planned abductions of government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders and residents in the affected communities.
A security source said the document had passed through official channels before it was leaked, adding, “If you see the document, it was already punched in the registry of the 232 Battalion. It was after that an officer snapped it and sent it out”.
Another military officer described the leak as “an act of sabotage”, as the Army begins efforts to identify those responsible.
The investigation comes amid heightened security concerns over possible attacks in the affected areas.
