The Defence Intelligence Agency confirmed that Colonel Abdussalam Ude died after unidentified gunmen attacked his home at the Phase 5 Army Housing Estate in Kurudu late Monday night.
The agency said the assailants struck at about 10:45 p.m. during an attempted abduction. The officer’s wife, driver and security guard were also injured in the attack.
In a statement, the DIA said security and law enforcement agencies have begun a full investigation to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible.
The agency described Colonel Ude as a dedicated intelligence officer who served Nigeria with professionalism and unwavering commitment to national security.
Before his death, he held several strategic intelligence and counter-terrorism assignments, including operations in the North-East and international postings in Chad and France.
Colonel Ude, who hailed from Enugu State, was due for promotion to the rank of Brigadier General next year.
The Defence Intelligence Agency extended its condolences to his family, colleagues and members of the Armed Forces, while pledging to work with relevant authorities to ensure justice is served.
