Major League Soccer (MLS), has launched an investigation into allegations that Inter Miami tampered with the signing of Brazilian midfielder, Casemiro before acquiring his Discovery Priority rights from LA Galaxy.
MLS confirmed it is gathering information and will not comment further until the review is complete. Sources told ESPN that the Galaxy filed a tampering complaint, claiming Inter Miami made contact with Casemiro without first securing the exclusive negotiating rights held by the club.
Although Inter Miami and LA Galaxy have since reached a settlement over Casemiro’s Discovery Priority, the league said the investigation will continue. The terms of the agreement will be disclosed once the review concludes.
Under MLS rules, clubs can place up to five players on their Discovery List, giving them the exclusive right to begin negotiations. Any club wishing to sign a player on another team’s list must first acquire those rights, typically in exchange for General Allocation Money.
Following the settlement, Inter Miami completed Casemiro’s signing on a deal running through the end of the 2027 MLS season, with an option to extend until June 2029.
Casemiro insisted he always intended to join Inter Miami, saying he had informed the Galaxy that Miami was the only MLS club he wanted to represent because of the club’s project, the city, and the opportunity to play alongside Lionel Messi. He also thanked Inter Miami for making the move possible.
