The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging that the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, was attacked.
In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, the Ministry described the report as “entirely false, irresponsible, and capable of causing unnecessary panic, fear, and anxiety among parents, guardians, and the general public.”
The Ministry stated that there was no attack on the college, stressing that the school remains safe and secure, with all students, staff, and boarding facilities fully protected and accounted for.
According to the statement, academic, boarding, and other school activities are continuing without disruption in a peaceful environment.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed that the safety, security, and welfare of learners in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority of the Federal Government.
He noted that FGGC Monguno operates under robust security arrangements designed to ensure the continuous protection of students, staff, and school facilities.
The Minister also clarified that no student of FGGC Monguno was involved in the incident being linked to the school on social media. He explained that the individuals affected were remedial students outside the college, adding that the Borno State Government is taking the necessary steps to ensure their safety and welfare.
The Ministry urged the public, particularly social media users, bloggers, and online publishers, to verify information through credible and official sources before sharing or publishing it.
It warned that the spread of unverified information misleads the public, creates unnecessary fear, undermines public confidence, and distracts from ongoing efforts to provide safe and conducive learning environments for students.
The Ministry also appealed to parents and guardians to remain calm, assuring them that there is no security threat at FGGC Monguno.
It reiterated its commitment to working with security agencies, state governments, and school authorities to sustain the safety of all Federal Government Colleges nationwide, while pledging to continue providing timely and accurate information through its official communication channels.
