Former Super Eagles captain says Abuja’s rapid transformation reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda and expresses confidence in greater investment in sports development…..
Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has applauded the pace of infrastructure development across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing the ongoing transformation as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Yobo spoke with journalists during the launch of the Abuja City Walk, where he praised the FCT Administration for accelerating the delivery of critical infrastructure projects across the nation’s capital.
The former Nigerian international singled out FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for commendation, saying his focus on infrastructure has redefined governance and demonstrated that visible development is possible through effective leadership.
According to Yobo, one of Nigeria’s biggest governance challenges has always been implementation rather than planning, adding that the progress recorded in the FCT shows what can be achieved when projects are executed with determination.
“Coming to the FCT and seeing what the Minister has achieved is highly commendable and worthy of emulation,” he said.
“He has raised the bar for governance by doing exactly what is required, providing infrastructure and delivering development to the people.”
His remarks come as the FCT Administration continues commissioning major infrastructure projects, including new road networks and other public facilities, as part of a broader urban renewal programme.
Yobo described the ongoing projects as landmark achievements, noting that the scale of development aligns with Wike’s reputation for prioritising infrastructure during his time as Governor of Rivers State.
He also referenced the minister’s assurance that the current round of project commissioning represents only the first phase of a wider infrastructure agenda, with additional projects expected to be completed before the end of the year.
Beyond infrastructure, Yobo expressed optimism about the future of sports development in the FCT, citing Wike’s longstanding support for sports and athletes.
He recalled the minister’s investments in sports infrastructure during his tenure in Rivers State and said he expects a similar commitment in Abuja.
According to Yobo, Wike’s track record gives confidence that sports facilities and development programmes in the FCT will receive greater attention in the coming years.
“He is exactly the kind of leader who gets things done in this sector. I am confident he will put something excellent in place for sports development in the FCT,” he said.
The FCT Administration has continued to roll out infrastructure projects across Abuja, with officials maintaining that the initiatives are designed to improve transportation, expand public services and support sustainable urban development in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
