The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has taken delivery of two new 100MVA power transformers for installation at the ongoing 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Katsina, in a move aimed at strengthening electricity transmission capacity in the North-West.
The transformers were received by TCN’s Kano Region on Thursday, July 9, as part of the company’s strategic national grid expansion programme designed to improve bulk power supply to Katsina State and neighbouring areas.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the transformers are critical components for the completion of the substation project.
She said that upon installation, testing and commissioning, the transformers would increase the region’s transmission capacity by an additional 160 megawatts (MW).
Mbah explained that the completion and energisation of the Katsina substation would enhance the reliability, flexibility and overall efficiency of power transmission while boosting TCN’s ability to evacuate more bulk electricity to the Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina State and its environs.
She added that the project forms part of several transmission infrastructure projects being executed across the country to expand, modernise and reinforce the national grid in response to Nigeria’s growing electricity demand.
