Nigerian singer Augustine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, believes romantic relationships have changed significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic, arguing that the 2020 lockdown altered how people view love and commitment.
Speaking in a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos, the Pana hitmaker said spending extended periods together during the lockdown made many couples reassess their relationships.
According to Tekno, the experience left some people emotionally exhausted and less willing to invest in love after discovering their feelings were not as strong as they had believed.
“I think since after 2020, love is not the same,” he said. “During the lockdown people got to spend time with their lovers and realised, ‘Maybe I didn’t love this person as much as I thought.’ I think we just grew fatigued of the ones we thought we loved the most.”
The singer argued that time apart plays an important role in sustaining relationships, adding that constant proximity can diminish appreciation between partners.
Tekno also claimed that marriages have become less stable since 2020 and suggested that cases of infidelity have increased. He further lamented what he described as the decline of genuine love stories in entertainment, saying many films now prioritise social media attention over authentic storytelling.
His remarks have since sparked debate online, with many weighing in on whether the pandemic permanently changed the dynamics of modern relationships.
