The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called on former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to apologise to airport staff and pay the prescribed fine for what he described as a parking violation at an airport.
In a statement posted on his verified X account, Keyamo said he considered it a “moral duty” to investigate Obi’s recent claim that the tyres of his vehicle were “unjustly” clamped at the airport as part of what Obi alleged was a “persecution agenda” by the Federal Government.
“As the Minister of Aviation, I felt a moral duty to investigate and authenticate the claim made by opposition candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, a few days ago that the tyres of his car were ‘unjustly’ clamped at the airport, suggesting a ‘persecution agenda’ against him by the Federal Government. Politics aside, every Nigerian is entitled to fair treatment under the law,” Keyamo wrote.
The minister said his findings showed that the vehicle was parked in violation of airport regulations and maintained that airport officials acted within established procedures.
According to Keyamo, the incident was unrelated to politics or any directive from the Federal Government, insisting that airport rules apply equally to all users regardless of status or political affiliation.
He therefore urged Obi to apologise to the airport personnel involved and settle the fine prescribed for the parking offence.
Peter Obi had earlier alleged that his vehicle was unjustly clamped at the airport, describing the incident as part of a broader pattern of harassment against him.
As of press time, Obi had not publicly responded to Keyamo’s latest remarks.
