Two children of the immediate passed deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Baba Tela, on Saturday died in a ghastly motor accident along Bauchi – Azare highway while returning from Azare.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Muhktar Gidado, extended his condolences to the family of his former deputy over the unfortunate incident.
He said he received the news of the incident with profound shock and sadness, describing it as a painful tragedy that has cast a shadow of grief over the entire state.
The Governor said the loss of two young lives in such a tragic circumstance is not only a devastating blow to Senator Baba Tela and immediate family but also a painful loss to the entire people of Bauchi State.
“Governor Bala Mohammed received the heartbreaking news with profound shock and sadness, describing the unfortunate incident as a painful tragedy that has cast a shadow of grief over the entire state.
“The Governor said the loss of two young lives in such a tragic circumstance is not only a devastating blow to Senator Baba Tela and his immediate family but also a painful loss to the entire people of Bauchi State .
“He prayed that the Almighty Allah (SWT), will grant the departed eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and give their parents, family members, friends, and all those affected the strength, patience, and fortitude to bear this big loss.
“Governor Bala Mohammed urged the bereaved family to take solace in the will of Almighty Allah, reminding them that every soul shall return to its Creator at the appointed time. He assured Senator Baba Tela of the thoughts, prayers, and solidarity of the Government and people of Bauchi State during this difficult period.
“The Governor also extended his heartfelt sympathies to all those who were affected by the unfortunate accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries,” he stated.
The Governor urged residents of the state to join him in praying for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased and for Allah’s comfort upon the bereaved family.
The funeral prayer for the deceased is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 5th July, 2026, at the Emir’s Palace, Bauchi.
Similarly, the Governor also mourned the death of on his Special Advisers, Yakubu Ibrahim, who died on Saturday after a protracted illness.
Ibrahim served as a former Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Societal Reorientation, during the first tenure of Governor Bala Mohammed.
Until his demise, he was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education, and Regional Integration.
In a statement through his Media Aide, Mukhtar Gidado, the Governor described the deceased as a distinguished public servant whose life was defined by integrity, humility, selfless service, and an unrelenting passion for the advancement of education.
He said: “The Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, Fnipr (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya), on behalf of his family, the Government, and the good people of Bauchi State, expresses profound grief over the passing of elder statesman, educationist, and former Bauchi State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Yakubu Ibrahim Hamza, who died yesterday in Abuja after a protracted illness.
“Until his death, Alhaji Yakubu Ibrahim Hamza served diligently as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education, where he brought his vast experience, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the development of the education sector in Bauchi State.
“Governor Bala Mohammed described late Yakubu Ibrahim Hamza as a distinguished public servant whose life was defined by integrity, humility, selfless service, and an unrelenting passion for the advancement of education. He noted that the deceased made invaluable contributions to the growth and transformation of education in both the old Bauchi State and the present-day Bauchi State, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
“The Governor further recalls the late elder statesman’s exemplary service in various capacities, particularly as Commissioner for Religious Affairs and later as Special Adviser on Higher and Education, where his wise counsel, deep knowledge, sand dedication to public service greatly enriched government policies and programmes,” he said.
Gidado quoted his principal as saying: “Alhaji Yakubu Ibrahim Hamza was a committed patriot, a respected educationist, a mentor to many, and a bridge-builder whose contributions to the educational and moral development of our society will remain indelible. His death is a painful loss not only to his immediate family but also to the Government and people of Bauchi State and the nation at large.”
