Former Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic has alleged that Croatia were denied a fair result in their Round of 32 World Cup match against Portugal.
Portugal claimed a 2-1 victory, but the match ended in controversy after a late equaliser from Josko Gvardiol was disallowed.
Goncalo Ramos had earlier put Portugal ahead before Gvardiol appeared to level the score at 2-2, only for VAR to rule the goal out. FIFA later stated that Connected Ball Technology detected a slight touch from Igor Matanovic.
Reacting to the incident in an interview with Gazzetta, Ibrahimovic said: “It was a fantastic match ruined in the end by VAR.
“I saw nothing irregular about the 2-2 goal; VAR disallowed it, but for me, it was a robbery.
“Either the sensor in the ball wasn’t working or something went wrong, because Renato Veiga touched the ball, which means there was no offside.
“Look at the angle: Croatia’s number 20 doesn’t touch the ball, nor does he change its trajectory in the slightest. It’s Portugal’s number 13 [Veiga] who touches it!”
