The Federal Government has completed the evacuation of 801 Nigerian nationals from South Africa, commissioning Air Peace to airlift the returnees in three humanitarian flights following renewed xenophobic tensions in parts of the country.
Air Peace disclosed this in a statement on Friday after completing its third evacuation mission, which brought home 268 Nigerians aboard its Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
According to the airline, the latest operation was carried out in partnership with the Federal Government as part of the voluntary repatriation programme for Nigerians affected by the unrest in South Africa.
With the latest mission, the government has evacuated 262 Nigerians on June 11, 271 on June 30 and another 268 on July 3, bringing the total number of returnees to 801.
The airline said the successful completion of the three missions underscores its operational capability and continued support for the Federal Government’s humanitarian response.
It added that the latest operation also highlights the partnership between the airline and the Federal Government in protecting the welfare of Nigerian citizens abroad.
According to Air Peace, the milestone “reinforces the airline’s unwavering commitment to national service and its readiness to respond swiftly whenever Nigerians require assistance beyond the country’s borders.”
The carrier added: “Beyond connecting destinations, Air Peace continues to connect Nigerians with hope, family and the reassurance of home during moments of uncertainty.”
Air Peace also noted that it has undertaken more than 16 humanitarian and evacuation missions across Africa and beyond since commencing operations.
The airline reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national priorities and assisting Nigerians during emergencies.
“As Nigeria’s flagship private airline, Air Peace remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting national priorities, connecting people safely, and ensuring that whenever Nigerians need a way home, the airline stands ready to answer the call,” the statement said.
