President says the era of abandoned infrastructure in Abuja is over, commissions rehabilitated Old Keffi Road and approves construction of the Kaba–Kagini–Zaudna corridor…..
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate expansion of road infrastructure to more communities across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to taking development beyond the city centre and into underserved districts.
The President gave the directive on Thursday while commissioning the newly rehabilitated Old Keffi Road, a major corridor stretching from Kado Fish Market through Life Camp to Dei-Dei Junction. During the event, he also approved the construction of the Kaba–Kagini–Zaudna Road after residents displayed banners drawing attention to the poor condition of roads serving their communities.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the ceremony held along the Gwagwa Rail Station Road in Abuja, Tinubu said every community in the FCT deserves access to quality infrastructure, insisting that no area would be left behind under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are not slowing down. Across the FCT, from the centre to the area councils, we are building for inclusion, for safety and for growth. Every district deserves access. Every citizen deserves to feel the impact of government where they are,” the President said.
Tinubu declared that the completion of the Old Keffi Road marked another clear sign that his administration had put an end to the era of abandoned infrastructure projects in the nation’s capital.
He recalled that when his administration came into office, it promised to complete stalled projects and deliver tangible results, adding that the government’s record now speaks for itself.
“From Saburi 1 and 2 to this corridor and several other projects commissioned in recent weeks, we have shown that we identify problems, provide funding and deliver solutions,” he said.
The President described the rehabilitated road as more than just a transportation project, saying it would significantly improve the daily lives of thousands of residents and businesses operating along the corridor.
According to him, the road now provides smoother travel, reliable street lighting and improved drainage infrastructure, making movement safer and more efficient while reducing flooding in surrounding communities.
Tinubu disclosed that the project was initiated after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, brought the deteriorating condition of the strategic road to his attention. He said the Federal Executive Council subsequently approved the project, which was awarded to Lubrik Construction Company Limited based on its track record.
The President stressed that his administration rewards competence rather than political patronage, noting that contractors who deliver quality projects on schedule would continue to receive government jobs.
He also commended Wike for what he described as visible improvements across the FCT, praising the minister’s hands-on approach to project supervision and execution.
According to Tinubu, development under the current administration is no longer concentrated in Abuja’s city centre but is gradually reaching satellite towns, districts and area councils.
He equally applauded the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, alongside officials of the FCT Administration for ensuring that the road project was completed within schedule without compromising quality.
Beyond easing traffic congestion, Tinubu said the rehabilitated road would strengthen commercial activities by improving connectivity between Kado, Saburi, Gwagwa, Karmo, Idu and Dei-Dei, while providing direct access to the Outer Northern Expressway.
He added that the installation of streetlights under the Light Up Abuja initiative would enhance security and encourage business activities after dark.
The President, however, urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure by protecting public assets, avoiding the vandalism of streetlights and ensuring drainage channels remain free of refuse.
Earlier in his remarks, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the rehabilitation fulfilled a long-standing promise made to residents and traders who had consistently appealed for the reconstruction of the road following the successful completion of the Saburi Road project.
He recalled that during the Area Council election campaigns, traders had urged him to deliver a message directly to President Tinubu, assuring him that completing the road would earn the President their lasting gratitude.
According to Wike, that promise has now been fulfilled.
One of the defining moments of the commissioning ceremony came when residents of Kaba, Kagini and Zaudna stepped forward carrying banners requesting government intervention on their road network.
Responding immediately, Wike announced that President Tinubu had approved the construction of the road and directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to instruct Lubrik Construction Company Limited to mobilise to the site without delay.
The minister described the swift approval as another demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda in action, saying the administration remains focused on restoring confidence through projects that improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities and directly impact people’s lives.
He thanked President Tinubu for approving the Old Keffi Road project and assured residents that work on the newly approved Kaba–Kagini–Zaudna Road would commence as quickly as possible.
