Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has returned to action, providing a major boost for Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The 29-year-old had been out of action for nearly two months after sustaining a meniscus injury during AFC Toronto’s league fixture against Halifax.
Okoronkwo made her comeback on Sunday, playing the final 25 minutes as AFC Toronto defeated Vancouver 3-1. The Canadian side struggled in her absence, managing one win, two draws and two losses in five league matches.
Her return is expected to strengthen her chances of making head coach Justine Madugu’s squad for the continental tournament.
Okoronkwo was one of Nigeria’s standout performers at the previous WAFCON in Morocco, finishing with two goals and six assists in six appearances.
