Governor orders clearance of highway corridor, warns against indiscriminate dumping as Lagos ramps up sanitation enforcement…..
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to occupants of illegal structures along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, directing them to vacate the corridor ahead of a planned enforcement and demolition exercise.
The governor issued the directive following the monthly sanitation exercise conducted across parts of the state, including Ojuelegba in Surulere and areas in Kosofe Local Government.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between residents and government authorities in maintaining a cleaner and more organised Lagos environment.
According to him, the state government will no longer tolerate unapproved activities or structures along major highways, adding that enforcement will be carried out to restore order along the affected corridor.
Sanwo-Olu also disclosed that preparations are underway for a large-scale clearance operation, stating that illegal structures on the Lagos–Badagry Expressway median and surrounding areas will be removed.
“From next week, we are coming to clear the entire median. Everything there will go,” he said.
As part of broader environmental reforms, the governor announced that 150 additional compactor trucks have been acquired to strengthen waste collection and improve logistics across the state.
He added that the government is also developing a more robust landfill management system aimed at reducing turnaround time for Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators in waste management.
Sanwo-Olu appealed to residents to take responsibility for proper waste disposal, urging them to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse and to ensure timely payment of waste bills.
He emphasized that sustained environmental cleanliness requires both government enforcement and public cooperation, noting that Lagos must be collectively maintained as a livable megacity.
