The Nigerian Army has approved a wide-ranging redeployment of senior officers, introducing new appointments across its operational commands, training institutions and Army Headquarters in a move aimed at strengthening leadership and boosting the military’s operational effectiveness.
The reshuffle, announced on Saturday, was confirmed in a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, who said the changes were approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.
According to the statement, the latest postings affect General Officers Commanding (GOCs), brigade commanders, commandants of military institutions and principal staff officers, with the objective of improving the Army’s capacity to respond to emerging security challenges nationwide.
Among the key appointments, Major General WM Dangana has been named the new General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, taking over from Major General EF Oyinlola.
Major General EI Okoro has also been appointed General Officer Commanding 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, succeeding Major General EE Emeka.
The Army also named Major General JR Lar as Commander of Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola was appointed Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri will continue in his current role as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.
As part of efforts to reinforce operational leadership, Brigadier General IB Buhari has been posted to Headquarters 63 Brigade as Commander, while Brigadier General K Rabiu will head Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.
In a move highlighting the military’s growing focus on modern warfare and technology-driven security operations, Major General SA Emmanuel has been appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command.
The Army also announced the appointment of Major General O Adegbe as Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.
Several changes were equally made in the Army’s training and academic institutions. Major General KE Chigbu will serve as Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, while Major General SD Makolo has been appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School.
Major General SO Adejimi will now head the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport as Commandant, while Major General FS Etim takes over as Chief of Training at the Headquarters, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).
Also, Brigadier General U Ahmad has been appointed Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.
The reshuffle extends to military-owned establishments, with Major General KO Ukandu appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison assumes office as Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.
Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, innovation, exemplary leadership and an unwavering commitment to the Nigerian Army’s constitutional responsibility of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and supporting internal security operations.
He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to building a highly professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of addressing both current and emerging security challenges across the country.
