Joseph Momodu has celebrated completing his United States Army Basic Combat Training, describing the achievement as a tribute to his late father, who served in the Nigerian Police Force.
Sharing his journey, Momodu reflected on the intensity of the military training, saying the 10-week programme transformed him from a civilian into a soldier.
“According to him, the experience moved him from civilian life to soldier status in 10 weeks. ‘I went to sleep a civilian and woke up a soldier,’” he said.
Momodu revealed that he enlisted in the US Army on April 12, 2026, exactly 20 years after his father’s death, explaining that the decision was inspired by a desire to continue his family’s tradition of service.
“On April 12, 2026, I honoured my late father in a historic way. Twenty years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigerian Police Force and carried it forward by getting enlisted into the United States Army,” he wrote.
He also expressed gratitude to God for enabling him to pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) examination on his first attempt and complete Basic Combat Training successfully.
Momodu further thanked the Royal Family of Oba Momodu II of the Avyuele Clan in Agbede, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, as well as the US Army Recruiting Station in Burbank, California, for supporting him throughout the enlistment process.
He also acknowledged Akeem Ogara for managing his social media accounts during his military training, describing the support he received as instrumental to his successful transition into military service.
