The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced a planned power outage that will affect Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states on Sunday, June 28, 2026, to enable critical maintenance works at the 330kV Kumbotso Substation.
In a statement issued by its management on Friday, NISO said the outage would last from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and is necessary to facilitate essential upgrade works being carried out by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
According to the operator, the maintenance is a strategic investment aimed at strengthening the national grid, enhancing the transmission capacity of the network and improving electricity supply to customers across the affected region.
NISO noted that electricity supply would be temporarily interrupted in Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states during the maintenance period.
The operator expressed regret over the inconvenience the outage may cause and appealed to residents and electricity consumers in the affected states for patience and understanding.
It assured stakeholders that the upgrade would contribute to improved grid reliability and greater resilience of Nigeria’s power system in the long term.
