The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has condemned the killing of its Benue State Chairman, Alhaji Ardo Risku, describing the incident as a disturbing attack that raises concerns of possible premeditation.
In a press release signed by MACBAN National President, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, the association said it received news of the killing “with deep shock and sadness.”
According to the association, Alhaji Ardo Risku had been invited by the Ohimini Local Government authorities to attend a security meeting aimed at discussing issues affecting peace and security in the area.
MACBAN said that “barely one hour after attending the meeting, reports indicate that Alhaji Ardo Risku and his friend were allegedly accosted at Okudu village, where they were attacked and shot several times.”
The association described the incident as “a dastardly and deeply disturbing act,” adding that “the circumstances surrounding the killing raise serious concerns about possible premeditation.”
“It is particularly troubling that a community leader who attended a security meeting meant to promote peace and stability could allegedly become a victim shortly after,” the statement said.
MACBAN also expressed concern over reports that one of the deceased chairman’s children, a lawyer, was allegedly attacked in a village only last week.
“These incidents demand a thorough and transparent investigation by the relevant security authorities,” the association stated.
The group called on security agencies to “immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder, identify those responsible, and ensure that justice is served.”
According to the association, “the killing of community leaders and peace advocates threatens efforts towards reconciliation, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence among communities.”
It added that, “Those who seek to destabilise society through violence must not be allowed to succeed.”
MACBAN commiserated with the family of Alhaji Ardo Risku, the leadership and members of MACBAN Benue State, and others affected by the incident.
The association reiterated its commitment to “peace, lawful engagement, and collaboration with government and security institutions to address the challenges facing communities across the country.”
