Authorities in Anambra State have debunked a viral social media claim alleging that a military helicopter dropped unknown objects in a bush between Nimo and Adazi-Nnukwu communities in Anaocha Local Government Area.
The Anambra State Police Command described the report as false and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.
In a statement on Thursday, police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said tactical teams were immediately deployed to the area after the claim surfaced online.
“Following the report, the command immediately deployed operatives to the area for verification and assessment. Findings showed the location remains calm, with no suspicious objects or security threat observed”, the statement said.
He added that normal activities were ongoing in the area, while routine surveillance had been intensified to ensure public safety.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, urged residents to disregard the rumour but remain security conscious, reaffirming the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and cooperation with other security agencies.
He also encouraged the public to verify sensitive security information from official sources and report any suspicious movements to the nearest security formation.
