The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the successful restoration of the Alaoji–Owerri 132kV Transmission Lines 1 and 2, bringing the transmission corridor back to full operation and enabling electricity distributors to resume normal power supply to affected areas.
According to the company, Line 1 and Line 2 were re-energized at 7:05 p.m. and 7:06 p.m., respectively, on Wednesday.
The transmission lines had tripped on Tuesday, June 23, disrupting bulk electricity supply to parts of southeastern Nigeria. TCN said its maintenance team promptly identified the fault location and mobilized to carry out repairs.
Following repairs on Line 1, the company restored the line to service at about 7:25 p.m. on Tuesday, allowing partial restoration of electricity transmission to Imo State, Bayelsa State, including Yenagoa, and parts of Rivers State, particularly the Ahoda area.
TCN explained that Line 1 was subsequently de-energized to allow engineers to safely repair Line 2. The company noted that the close proximity of the two high-voltage lines could have caused electromagnetic induction on the faulty line if the adjacent line remained energized, creating a safety hazard for maintenance personnel.
The temporary outage of Line 1 was approved by the Nigerian Independent System Operator and carried out with the agreement of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company.
With both lines now restored, TCN said the Alaoji–Owerri transmission corridor is fully operational, enabling EEDC and PHEDC to offtake full electricity load for distribution to customers across their franchise areas.
The company expressed appreciation to consumers affected by the outage for their patience and understanding, while reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a reliable and efficient transmission network nationwide.
In a statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, the company also apologized for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
