The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the delivery of a parcel containing live ammunition to the residence of Olusegun Alebiosu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank Nigeria.
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed this during a press briefing on Tuesday, revealing that the incident was reported to the police by Alebiosu on May 7, 2026.
According to the police chief, the FirstBank CEO informed the command that a security guard at his Lagos residence had received a parcel, which was later discovered to contain two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
Fatai said the discovery immediately raised concerns and prompted a police investigation.
“Presently, I can confirm to you that the matter is still under investigation. It is a serious case. The investigation needs to be more thorough,” he said.
The commissioner added that although Alebiosu had provided the names of some individuals he suspected might be connected to the incident, no arrests had been made.
“Presently, no suspect is in custody. Even though the MD has mentioned some people who he suspected of being the brains behind it. That is his suspicion anyway. We are still working on it.”
Fatai made the clarification while responding to questions seeking confirmation of reports surrounding the parcel delivered to the bank chief’s residence.
The police commissioner also disclosed that operatives of the Lagos State Command had recorded breakthroughs in crime fighting across the state, leading to the arrest of several suspects involved in various criminal activities.
He said items recovered during recent operations included 14 firearms, four live cartridges, 51 mobile phones, one motorcycle, 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and vandalised electrical cables.
