Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has congratulated the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on his re-election, describing the victory as a clear endorsement of the governor’s leadership and governance record.
Bamidele, who chaired the APC Governorship Election Campaign Council in Ekiti State, said Oyebanji’s renewed mandate would guarantee continuity in the delivery of impactful governance and accelerate development across the state.
He stated this in a statement issued on Sunday by his Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, describing the outcome of the election as “a signpost for a better, brighter and greater Ekiti.”
The Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Prof. Adenike Oladiji, had announced the final results at the collation centre in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday.
According to the results, Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, who polled 40,543 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Mr. Dare Bejide, garnered 12,872 votes.
Congratulating the governor, Bamidele said Oyebanji’s leadership had fostered peace, unity and stability in Ekiti State, transforming the political atmosphere from one often characterised by division and hostility to one driven by cooperation and collaboration.
According to him, one of the governor’s most significant achievements has been his ability to unite political leaders and stakeholders across party lines around a common vision for the development of the state.
He particularly commended Oyebanji for maintaining strong relationships with former governors and other influential political figures, describing the level of harmony among political leaders in the state as a rare achievement.
“The outcome of the election perfectly reflects the confidence of the people in Oyebanji’s leadership, commitment to public governance, and dedication to the welfare and prosperity of Ekiti people at large,” Bamidele said.
He added that the governor’s approach to governance and politics played a significant role in his re-election.
“Oyebanji made history in Ekiti State as the first governor to be re-elected back-to-back since 1999, a testament to his approach to governance and his ability to unite the state’s stakeholders across party lines,” he said.
Bamidele expressed confidence that the governor’s second term would consolidate ongoing reforms, deepen development initiatives and further position Ekiti as a model of good governance and political stability.
He also thanked residents of the state for their peaceful conduct before, during and after the election and for demonstrating faith in democracy through active participation in the electoral process.
The Senate Leader further appreciated the national and state leadership of the APC for providing the platform and support that contributed to the governor’s victory at the polls.
