The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwanu Disu, has ordered the Kano Police Command to go on the offensive against criminals in the state.
The IGP, represented by Deputy Inspector-General Sulaiman M. Abdul in charge of the North-West Zone, made the call in Kano on Tuesday while addressing officers and men of the Kano State Police Command at a strategic lecture.
The lecture, themed âAsymmetric Threat Preemption, Urban Gang Management, and Securing Commercial Hubsâ, took place at the Officersâ Mess in the command headquarters. Disu commended the command for tackling crime, especially violent youth groups known as âYan Dabaâ.
On stopping bandits from Katsina State from entering Kano, Disu said police had launched âHandshake Patrolâ – a joint operation by security forces from both states.
âWe will not sit and wait for criminals to strike before we respond. This joint patrol will take the fight to them at the borders,â Disu said.
Stating the six core administrative pillars that form the unyielding foundation of modern internal security blueprint, he mentioned that there will be inter-agency collaboration and regional synergy.
âDismantling institutional silos to achieve seamless, real-time intelligence sharing with the military, DSS, and sister agencies.
âThis includes breaking administrative boundaries through operational frameworks like âHandshake Patrolsâ between contiguous states to deny criminals jurisdictional escape routes.
Other pillars include intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, strict accountability and human rights compliance, community policing and public trust, operational standardization and specialization as well as personnel welfare and capacity building.
The IGP praised the police saying: âYou have taken the battle straight to the criminals with bold actions, recording major successes through arrest and neutralization of bandits and their kingpins.
âThe people are noticing our courage. Well done! It is far better to strike first and stay on the offensive than to remain only reactive.
âWhen bandits know we fire back decisively, they will think twice. Keep pushing hard, stay sharp, and sustain this momentum. You are the pride of the force. Thank you for your dedication and braveryâ he stated.
