Governor Peter Mbah says increased financial support to subnational governments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has driven infrastructure expansion in Enugu State.
He spoke when he received members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors on a media tour of the South-East. The delegation was jointly led by presidential aides Bayo Onanuga and Sunday Dare.
The tour was organised to showcase federal and state projects across the region. It is part of the Renewed Hope initiative led by the National Coordinator, Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Mbah said federal policies have increased funds available to states and improved their ability to fund capital projects. He said this has allowed Enugu to shift focus from salary obligations to infrastructure delivery.
He said earlier funding patterns left states with little or no resources for development after wage payments. He added that the current fiscal structure has improved planning and execution of projects.
According to him, reforms such as subsidy removal, exchange rate unification and tax changes have strengthened state finances. He also said the student loan scheme under NELFund has reduced pressure on state scholarship funding.
Mbah said Enugu is now using improved resources to expand work in roads, healthcare, education and security. He said the state is also investing in digital learning infrastructure and modern hospital facilities.
He highlighted the Smart Green Schools programme, designed to provide modern learning environments across communities in the state.
He also showcased the ongoing construction of the Enugu International Specialist Hospital, which he said would improve access to specialist healthcare and reduce medical tourism.
On security, he said investments in surveillance and response systems have strengthened safety across communities and supported economic activity.
He said: “It would have been impossible, to say the least, for us as a state to have done things at a scale we did without some of the bold and courageous policies of Mr President.”
Mbah added that federal reforms have created a stronger fiscal environment for subnational governments to deliver development projects.
During the tour, Onanuga said collaboration between the federal and state governments is producing visible results across the country.
He said: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not ignored any section of Nigeria.”
He added that infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda are reaching different parts of the country through partnerships with states.
The delegation inspected several projects in Enugu State. These include the Abakpa flyover interchange, the Enugu–Onitsha–Port Harcourt concrete pavement road reconstruction, and the dualisation of the Enugu International Airport Road to the Ebonyi border.
They also visited the Owo–Ubahu–Amankanu–Umualo–Ekem road project, the Enugu State Tractors Assembling Plant, and the Smart City project site.
The team inspected the Enugu International Specialist Hospital where they saw equipment including MRI machines, cancer treatment units, mammography systems and surgical theatres.
The tour is part of efforts to showcase projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda and assess how federal allocations are being used at state level.
