England midfielder Jude Bellingham says the national team heads into this summer’s World Cup with a stronger sense of unity than it had during its run to the Euro 2024 final.
The Real Madrid star, who was instrumental in England’s journey to the European Championship final before their defeat to Spain, said the squad has learned important lessons from that campaign.
Speaking on England’s Lions’ Den show, Bellingham admitted there were issues away from the pitch that affected team cohesion.
“At the Euros we got some things a little bit wrong off the pitch,” Bellingham said on England’s Lions’ Den show.
“I don’t feel like the group is connected as well as it could have for a number of reasons. Expectation was part of it.”
England arrived at Euro 2024 as one of the favourites, having reached the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the quarter-finals in Qatar. However, despite making the final, the team faced criticism over its performances.
“We were not playing particularly well so even when we were winning you didn’t get the feeling you were as happy as you should be,” Bellingham added.
