Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has advised Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to pursue Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez as the Gunners look to strengthen their squad following another unsuccessful UEFA Champions League campaign.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Richards said Arsenal need additional firepower up front ahead of next season.
While acknowledging the contributions of Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres, he argued that Alvarez would bring a different dimension to the club’s attack.
“I think they need another striker. Kai Havertz is outstanding in terms of technical ability, and Viktor Gyokeres has done well in his first season,” Richards said.
“But if they could get someone like Julian Alvarez, that would just give Arsenal something different.
“He’s one of the best strikers in world football going into the World Cup, and he’s already won one of those with Argentina.”
