A new guideline has been announced for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) 2027 general election primaries, stating that only candidates who emerge victorious will be required to pay nomination fees.
The party’s national leader, Henry Seriake Dickson, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday after a joint meeting of key party committees. He said the decision followed consultations with party leaders, including National Chairman Moses Zuwoghe and presidential aspirant Peter Obi.
Dickson explained that all aspirants who purchased Expression of Interest forms will still be allowed to participate in the primaries, while only those who emerge successful will proceed to pay nomination fees and complete documentation.
He praised the Screening Committee led by former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu for managing the large number of aspirants.
The party said its primaries will be held nationwide between May 28 and May 29, 2026, with officials already deployed across states.
Dickson also warned against violence or misconduct during the exercise, stressing that disciplinary action will be taken against any form of intimidation or disruption. He added that appeal panels will be set up to address complaints arising from the primaries.
He noted that electronic voting will not be used for this cycle due to time and logistical constraints, but assured that it will be introduced in future elections.
Earlier, the party had announced its fee structure, with presidential aspirants paying ₦60 million, governorship aspirants ₦30 million, Senate aspirants ₦8 million, House of Representatives aspirants ₦6 million, and State Assembly aspirants ₦2.5 million.
